Writing Clear Science offers both Open and In-House Writing Workshops throughout Australia on a regular basis. From 2010, our services will also be offered in the United Kingdom.
Writing Clear Science Open Workshops
- Writing Clear Science Open workshops are offered to any person with training in any field of science, including professionals who are interested in learning how to write from a scientist's perspective.
- Bookings are limited to 12 people. Bookings are secured by pre-payment or the issue of an invoice. Please refer to Registration & Payment for further information.
Writing Clear Science In-House Workshops
- Writing Clear Science In-House Writing Workshops can held in your department, institution or facility, or at any suitable location in Australia. We offer the Standard 2 Day Workshop, or workshops can be tailored to different needs. Please refer to Course Outlines for further information.
- In order to arrange a tailored workshop, you can choose from a range of different Modules and we can discuss options for developing new topics.
Our Approach to Teaching
- Writing Clear Science focuses on individual improvement and development. We teach the essential elements of science writing, from the standpoint that accuracy is of primary importance.
- We teach both the bottom-up (Day 1) and top-down (Day 2) approach to writing, concentrating on the challenges of writing in an environment of conflicting demands.
Format
- Day courses are usually run from 9am-4.30pm.
- The workshops are delivered with the aid of PowerPoint, with interactive exercises and discussions forming the central learning tool. Impromptu discussions on any writing topic are encouraged.
- Lecture handouts, exercise material and additional writing resources are provided.
- Class sizes range from 4 to 12.
- Participants are asked to submit samples of their writing for short editing exercises and for constructive writing assessment.
