Writing Clear Science teaches a unique approach to writing science documents from title development through to sentence, paragraph and document design. We correlate document design with research project design and in conjunction with a review of essential research skills.

The workshops consist of a rotating series of lectures, discussions, writing exercises and assessment of writing examples.

The Standard 2 Day Workshop 

The Writing Clear Science Standard 2 Day Workshop covers both essential and advanced aspects of science writing. These standard workshops are run as either Open Workshops or In-House Workshops. Additional Modules can be developed for In-House requirements (see below).

Day 1: The Nuts & Bolts: Writing Clearly and Succinctly

  • Module: Introduction: Writing Strategies & Techniques
  • Module: Sentence* and Paragraph Structure
  • Module: Improving Writing Style.

Day 2: Writing Reports & Papers.

  • Module: Clarifying Your Research Problem
  • Module: Clear Structure for Excellent Writing
  • Module: Publishing Your Science
Please Note: Day 1 is essential in order to undertake Day 2.

Additional Days: 

Day 3: Writing Your Thesis

  • Module: Project Design Overview.
  • Module: Designing & Writing Your Thesis.
  • Module: Thesis Construction and Chapter Structure. 

We discuss the requirements necessary to produce a scientifically valid thesis. We look at how your project design can be written up in different thesis structures.

Please Note: Day 1 and Day 2 are essential in order to undertake Day 3.

Day 4: Writing Day

This workshop is an opportunity to immediately apply your new skills to a writing project of your choice. You may form writing groups with other participants or write individually. You will have the opportunity to have your work edited during the course of the day.

Please Note: Day 1 and Day 2 are essential in order to undertake Day 4.
